This Sunday, I got an exciting email saying due to the weather (I work at a rooftop bar) I wouldn't need to go into work because we weren't going to be opening the bar. My best friend and I decided to celebrate by taking a day trip to Venice Beach, (or what I like to call the Seaside Heights of California). The cloudy, windy weather made for the perfect photo opportunities, so I went a little nuts! Olena, my bestie, is the one on the right, rocking a leather jacket, a styrofoam cup of iced coffee, and the best damn brows in the game. I'm on the left, rocking O's choker, a grown out ombre, and a full bladder. These days is the best days.
The wall art (graffiti) all over Los Angeles is really something to admire, but in Venice it's another level. I had to snap a picture of this wall when we first got there. Look how much fun they're having! VENICE!
There are vendors lining the entire length of the boardwalk in Venice, selling everything from jewelry to tapestries to clothing to artifacts. I'm not sure if this little guy was being sold, or just shown off, but I fell in love. I wanted to break him out of that cage, though, and take him with me. He looked so anxious and out of place. Why do people get joy out of taking beautiful creatures out of their natural habitat just to own them and ogle at them? It made me so sad :(
This is Olena. I like to call her O. We've been in each others' lives since we were 13 and I can't get rid of her. She's super pretty and her personality matches and I love her so I take photos of her often. This is one of them.
She's a goofball and we're spastic together; like so spastic that I'm convinced when we're out in public people absolutely think we are either high, drunk, or have something wrong with us. She helps me embrace my weirdness and that's why she's my best friend.
She also turns the camera on me which I don't normally let people do, but she lifts me up and makes me believe that I'm beautiful and like seriously that's the best quality you can ask for in a friend. Especially when you're definitely the DUFF. (I'm the duff.) But she sees me and so I let her photograph me, and for the most part they turn out awesome like these:
Then we went to the Canals, which was the first time I had ever been there. I was blown away. I could have spent the entire day there. It feels like you're miles and miles away from Los Angeles. If you blindfolded me, brought me there, and told me we were in Amsterdam, I would believe you. That's how gorgeous it is. I often forget about how beautiful America actually is, and it's places like this that remind me.
We ended the day with a stunning sundown. The rays shown down on the water causing the ocean to literally shine. California, HOW YOU LOOK SO GOOD EVEN WHEN YOU'RE CLOUDY!?!
And then we got home, got tipsy, got stupid, and found out how easy it is to manipulate your features on FaceTune. We laughed at this picture for a solid ten minutes.
I went to sleep with a happy tummy and a happy heart. Days off should always be this way.
